Welcome or bienvenue as the French would say, to Chanteloube, our lovely 7 bedroom home in the Dordogne, South West France. It is the perfect location for those wanting a relaxing self-catering holiday in this area of outstanding beauty. The region is renowned for its glorious wines, abundance of wildlife, wonderful scenery, historic cities, towns and villages, plus its numerous sporting activities. There is something for everyone in this amazing corner of France.
Chanteloube is the ideal property for families or groups of friends looking to discover the wonders of the Dordogne, also known by its historical name of the Perigord, it is famous for its medieval history. This area has many links to England dating back to the 100 year’s war. It is also famous for its prehistoric caves and caverns but more importantly its wonderful wines, including, Bergerac’s, Bordeaux, Pecharmant’s and Montbazillac’s to name but a few. The gastronomes amongst you are also well catered for, with restaurants serving specialities such as duck, foie gras, truffles, cheese, fish, walnuts and strawberries.
The house offers superb accommodation for a relaxing break. It is equipped for up to 14 people with all the comforts and amenities you would expect from a family friendly home. It is well furnished with good size bedrooms, a large lounge/dining room, 2 kitchens, TV room, table tennis area, laundry/utility room and garage. Outside the house is set in 1.5 acres of grounds with large grassed areas, an orchard, small lake, ample parking and a 15ft x 30ft swimming pool.
The postal address of Chanteloube is in Chalagnac a small village 5k away, however, the nearest hamlet of Creyssensac, is a short 2k walk away but you'll only find a few houses and a pretty little church. We do have some immediate neighbours nearby, which enables the house to achieve a wonderful level of peace and tranquillity without being isolated. Vergt 7k is a small market town where you can buy most of what you will need during your stay. Slightly further afield is Perigueux 15k, the capital of the Perigord. Bergerac is 32k away and is where our local airport is situated. Both cities are rich with history and are well worth a visit.
This holiday can be all you want it to be, so tailor it to your needs. Relax by the pool, fish the lake, read, play a leisurely game of boules, go walking, or if you have the energy, play golf, tennis, go horse riding or hire a canoe on the river Dordogne. You may want to visit a local market, prehistoric caves, a castle or museum, take the kids to an adventure park or taste delicious wines at the numerous chateaux in the area.
